We hope everyone is safe and weathering the shelter in place as well as can be. We wanted to let everyone know the procedures that will be put in place for our recognition of our spring athletes this Friday at 8:20.

At 8:20, the lights to the football stadium, baseball, and softball fields will be turned on for 20 minutes to honor the Spring Sports Seniors and their families who have lost their season.

Due to the regulations set by the Governor for the number of people who can be in one place at one time, social gathering regulations, etc, WE ASK THAT NO ONE exit their cars to take pictures, stop and hang out, or block the flow of traffic on HWY 70 or in the school parking lots. There will be law enforcement present on the campus who will direct the flow of traffic around the school fields.

At this time, we are working on a future plan for families to take photos of their senior athletes - only spring sport athletes.

Coaches and Faculty may honor the seniors by parking in the office area and flash car lights as the senior families parade by if you wish. Again, we urge that no one exit their cars.

If you chose to pass by the school between the times of 8:20-8:40, please proceed with caution along HWY 70, so everyone can enjoy the tribute to the Sr Athletes and their families during this time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

GO MARINERS!

Good Morning,

CCS wanted to make sure you all had access and knowledge about our Virtual Learning Day sites for Parents & Students and a separate site for Teachers.

You can find them both by going to www.carteretcountyschools.org and looking on the left Quick Links for Virtual Learning Days (this one is for parents & students) and Teacher Virtual Resources.

The student site also includes a link at the top for a student tech request.  ITFs and Tech Support will be monitoring this and responding to needs.  The teacher site also includes a Professional Development tab that will continue to be populated with great PD opportunities for this time.  Also, check back frequently for updates and we will be posting a Personal Staff Development Log that you will be able to save in Google Drive and keep track of your learning since Wednesday of last week.  This will eliminate all other paperwork for this time period for remote learning.

Carteret Families,

This week has been designated as non-instructional days for students. We will continue planning for virtual learning and have “optional” activities for students.  The “optional” activities this coming week will not be graded. Assignments will be used for review or enrichment for students. This is due to the Governor’s Executive Order 117, stating these days will be non-instructional days for students.

As we look at the situations across our state, you may want to be preparing for a long-term virtual possibility.  Students and parents, please use this week to strengthen your online skill set and make sure you are ready when virtual learning swings into full production.

We will continue to update families as situations are updated by the NC Department of Public Instruction.

At this time, while prom, graduation and athletic events are certainly activities we are concerned about, we are under very strict orders that we cannot have gatherings of students or people until the COVID - 19 virus restrictions from the governor's office are lifted.  We are as concerned as all parents now and especially for our seniors. I assure you that as soon as I know anything, that all parents, students and ECHS families will be notified.

In the meantime, please stay safe, self quarantined, and limit contact with people from the outside so the spread of this virus will begin to diminish and we can all go back to our normal lives.

ECHS families can go to any of the six school sites  (Beaufort Middle, Bogue Sound Elementary, Morehead Primary, Newport Elementary, Smyrna Elementary, and White Oak Elementary ) to pick up food from 11 am to 1 pm on weekdays.

Or they can contact an elementary /middle school (BMS) to find out the estimated time a yellow school bus will be in the area of their home. Or they can call one of the six elementary schools that are preparation sites to arrange a stop at their home. Anyone who is a student or who is 18 years old or younger can receive free meals.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, meals will be delivered to students and anyone under the age of 18 by yellow elementary school buses running their regular bus routes.  Food will continue to be served at Beaufort Middle, Bogue Sound Elementary, Morehead Primary, Newport Elementary, Smyrna Elementary, and White Oak Elementary from 11 am to 1 pm each weekday.

The buses will load meals at 10:30 am from the schools listed above and depart utilizing their same schedule as an early release day.   They will travel their normal route stopping and giving meals out to students.  Elementary parents, please use the Here Comes The Bus app to see when the bus will be at their stop for meal delivery. Middle and high parents will need to partner with an elementary neighbor to figure out bus delivery time as the Here Come the Bus app will only report to the elementary routes.

This bus route delivery will replace the neighborhood delivery that took place yesterday and today.  While we know there may be faults found in this plan, we will adjust an plan accordingly to continue to improve the process.

Remember, we are one system, one family, with one mission, we are the Carteret County Public School System and we remain Carteret Strong.

Carteret County Public School System Statement – March 15, 2020

Statement from Carteret County Public School System Interim Superintendent Richie Paylor

Schools across the state are closed through at least March 30. Please know our focus continues to be on our students, our employees and all their families, with health and well being at the top of the list.

Students may go to their school tomorrow, March 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to pick up personal items and any prescribed medications. The time students are at the school should be short and students should be focused on the task at hand – getting their personal items. If your student cannot get to school tomorrow, please call the school office to make other arrangements to pick up belongings.

Meals will be provided free of charge as usual to students. These meals will be available each weekday at five school sites and at six neighborhood locations beginning tomorrow, Monday. Meals can be picked up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beaufort Middle School, Bogue Sound Elementary School, Down East Middle School, Morehead City Primary School and Newport Elementary School, as well as Carteret County Apartments in Beaufort, Crystal Coast Apartments in Newport, East Carolina Housing Authority in Morehead City, Eastport at the Park in Beaufort, Beaufort Housing Authority in Beaufort, and Blue Point Bay Apartments in Newport. Students will be given a lunch and breakfast for the next day each day. There is a possibility of adding other meal drop off locations.

Additional information about course work will be provided later in the week.

As state officials continue to note, this is an unprecedented event and it is constantly changing. Your patience is appreciated.

As many of you are aware, Governor Cooper ordered all NC Public Schools closed starting Monday, March 16 for a period of at least two weeks.  Beginning, Monday, March 16, 2020, there will be no school for students until further notice. Monday will be a mandatory workday for all staff members.  Students will be allowed to come pick up personal items from 8:00am to 3:00pm on Monday.

We understand you may have many more questions, as do we. We also are working with our Child Nutrition leaders to coordinate a plan for making meals available for our students during this time.  We will provide more information, as we are meeting as a district-level leadership team and with state leaders Sunday at 3:00pm. We wanted to get this message out early for those of you that may have not been able to see the Governor’s press conference and to allow you time to coordinate for child care services if needed.  We are one family, with one mission, we are the Carteret County Public School System.

We are Carteret Strong and will remain Carteret Strong. Thank you and more information will be forthcoming tomorrow.

NCHSAA COVID-19 Update | Basketball Championships & all interscholastic athletics suspended indefinitely

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Due to the threat from COVID-19, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) has made the decision to postpone the 2020 Men’s and Women’s Basketball State Championships indefinitely.

“As much as we would like this opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and their communities, we know that ultimately any decision we make must err on the side of caution,” said Commissioner Que Tucker.

The Board of Directors also moved to suspend interscholastic athletics beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 through Monday, April 6th, 2020. The NCHSAA Board of Directors will assess this situation regularly over the next few weeks. This includes all workouts, skill development, practices and contests.

We want to brag a little bit on Mr. Jason Salter and the students he took to Raleigh -11/12/19.  This was the first time Mr. Salter has taken students to the Gator Wars.

The students complete in 4 stations as a group.  They had 15 minutes at each station to complete the tasks (think technical reading). They read the tasks in a manual, then had to complete task on the equipment.

Our ECHS students came in 5th place out of 10 teams!!  The tasks are very complex and John Deere Company uses this for direct recruitment into their program!

Congratulations to these students!!

We just want to make our Mariner families aware that last year (2018-19), we had sixteen (16) of our nineteen (19) ECHS athletic teams that were recognized by the NCHSAA as Scholar-Athlete Teams for maintaining  a 3.1 or higher Team GPA during their respective season.  We also had 143 student-athletes who were recognized as NCHSAA Scholar-Athletes for maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA!

Our goal for the 2019-20, is to have all nineteen (19) teams qualify as NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete Teams.  Our ECHS Mariners Athletics teams have weekly study hall in an effort to reach this goal.

Your support as parents and boosters of all activities at ECHS is vital to our student's continued success. We APPRECIATE all that you do.
