Honors / AP Required Summer Reading 2016 - 2017

ECHS Honors English Reading Contract 2016-2017

1.  There is required reading for all Honors/AP levels of English at East

     Carteret High School.

2.  It is the student’s responsibility to acquire a copy of the assigned

      novels. There are LIMITED copies available daily to check out at

      ECHS before summer vacation; students will need to contact the main

      office during summer hours.

3.   There will be an assessment of the required reading on the first day of

       English class, regardless of semester. In other words, if you

       originally had Honors English scheduled for spring semester you won’t

       take the test until then. BUT… if your schedule changes so that you

       have Honors English in the fall – you will then be taking that test in the


       Be prepared for either.

4.   Students will NOT be allowed to drop to Standard level English after

       registration without a parent conference at which the assigned

       English teacher and/or English Department Chair will be present.

       Classes are full and the schedule is fixed.

5.   The required reading is as follows:

      Honors English I – To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

      Honors English II – A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah ‎

      Honors English III – The Crucible by Arthur Miller

      Honors English IV – 1984 by George Orwell

      AP Literature – see Mrs. Green personally BEFORE

                                 summer vacation or during fall semester.
