East Carteret Track and Field
Welcome to the 2015 Outdoor Track Season at East Carteret HS. The coaches are looking forward to working with your children this year in an effort to improve as an athlete and a person this season. We expect great effort from our athletes in daily workouts and their classes. They will be expected to be positive role models for East Carteret HS in school, in competition, and in the community. Through a collaborative effort, we hope to field a competitive team this year in the Coastal Plains Conference.
1. Be on Time
2. Be Prepared
3. Do the Right Thing
1. Extra Conditioning as a reminder of expectations
2. Suspension from the team for a time determined by the coaches
3. Dismissal from the team
No Tolerance Situations:
Any action deemed inappropriate by the Head Coach will be grounds for disciplinary action. This includes your behavior in school as well as in the community. If you are given ISS 2 times in the season you will be suspended from the team for one meet. If you are given OSS for any reason you may be removed from the team immediately or suspended from competition. The Head Coach will evaluate all disciplinary issues on an individual basis to determine proper consequences for behavior.
We expect each athlete to give a full commitment to the Track Team which requires your daily attendance at all practices and meets. The only way we can build a great team is for you to train with 100% effort everyday at practice. If for some reason you must miss practice due to a Doctor or dentist appointment, you must bring a note for it to be excused. If you are sick and miss school, you must email Coach Sartain or call the school to let me know you are out of school. You may not practice if you miss school. If you miss more than a half day of school you may not compete in a meet that day, this is a state law.
3 Unexcused Absences = Dismissal from the team
Tardies will be handled on an individual basis
Missing practices for any reason other than mandatory tutoring with a teacher at school or making up a test or quiz will be subject to extra conditioning. Participation in Clubs and other activities that interfere with your attendance at practice will be handled on an individual basis. Work and non-mandatory tutoring is not an excuse to miss practice.
Academics are the primary reason for school. Athletics are a secondary pursuit. You are expected to do your absolute best work in the classroom. I will check grades during progress reporting time and when there is a change in the 6 weeks grading period. If you need extra help in class, please consult with that teacher and make arrangements to get help. Take ownership in your grades. A student must pass 3 out of 4 classes at a minimum to be athletically eligible for the next semester. Hopefully you have higher expectations for yourself.
If you or your parent have any concerns or issues with the expectations, goals, discipline policy, etc. for this team please contact me ASAP. I will not discuss coaching philosophy or playing time but I am willing to discuss other concerns. We need to have open dialogue to ensure the absolute best success possible for each student- athlete and the TEAM. I hope we have a great season and make many good lifelong memories.
I have read and agree to abide by the rules and expectations for this team:
